Mahone, Honorable Senator of Virginia, Brigadier General in Civil War

 

You are looking at a beautiful picture of Mahone, Honorable Senator of Virginia, Brigadier General in Civil War. It was created in 1865.

The picture presents William Mahone. Mahone was a civil engineer, helping to build Virginia's transportation infrastructure in the pre and post Civil War periord. He was a Major General in the Rebel Army during the Civil War. He achieved legendary status for his glorious performance at the Battle of the Crater against the Union Army attack before of Petersburg in 1864. After the war, Mahone became a in Virginia politician, leading the Readjuster Party. In 1881 he helped form what would later become Virginia State University. Small of size, he was sometimes called "Little Billy".
