Indian with Scalp

This Indian is Wearing a Scalp on his Shoulder

Here for your browsing pleasure is an extraordinary photo of Big Mouth Spring, an Indian wearing a scalp on his jacket. It was made in 1910 by Edward S. Curtis.

The photo documents this brave in a three-quarter length portrait, standing, facing right. He has long braids with one feather in his hair. He is wearing a beaded buckskin shirt, decorated scalp lock on right shoulder. He has a black silk neckerchief.

We have compiled this collection of photos mainly to serve as a vital educational resource. Contact curator@old-picture.com.
