Dancing Head-dress

Dancing Head-dress

Above we show a remarkable photo of a Tolowa Indian Dancing Head-dress. It was made in 1923 by Edward S. Curtis.

The illustration documents Sam Lopez in a head-and-shoulders portrait, wearing a Tolowa costume, including a redheaded woodpecker scalp headress and strings of dentalium shell beads, holding a traditional painted bow and an obsidian blade, a sign of wealth.

We have compiled this collection of artwork mainly to serve as a vital educational resource. Contact curator@old-picture.com.
