Cheyenne Man in Funny Hat

Cheyenne Indian Man

Here we present a rare image of Porcupine. It was taken in 1910 by Edward S. Curtis.

The image shows Porcupine, a Cheyenne man, head-and-shoulders portrait, facing right, wearing a wreath of cottonwood leaves on his head, possibly to protect his head from the sun during a Sun Dance.

We have created this collection of images primarily to serve as an easy to access educational tool. Contact curator@old-picture.com.
