Joseph Jenkins Roberts

Above we show a majestic photo of Joseph Jenkins Roberts, half-length portrait, full face. It was made in 1851 by Anson, Rufus.

The illustration documents Roberts arrived in Liberia in 1829 from Virginia. In 1839 Roberts was appointed Vice Colonial Governor of the Commonwealth of Liberia and took over as Governor of the Commonwealth, in 1841, when Thomas Buchanan died. Served as the first and seventh president of Liberia.

We have compiled this collection of artwork mainly to serve as a vital educational resource. Contact curator@old-picture.com.
