Above we show an original photograph of Colonel Clarke, Scots' Greys, with the horse wounded at Balaklava. It was taken between 1855 and 1865 by Fenton, Roger, 1819-1869.

The picture presents Colonel George Clarke, full-length portrait, wearing uniform, standing beside his horse, Sultan, facing left; horse's reins are held by a man who is possibly a servant; horse's rump is branded "2D" for 2nd Dragoons; encampment of tents in background.
