George Atzerodt

Washington Navy Yard, D.C. George A. Atzerodt, a conspirator

Here we present a rare image of Washington Navy Yard, D.C. George A. Atzerodt, a conspirator. It was taken in 1865 by Gardner, Alexander, 1821-1882.

The image shows Washington, 1862-1865, the assassination of President Lincoln, April-July 1865. This photograph has backgroundsof dark metal, and was presumably taken on the monitors, U.S.S. Montauk and Saugus, where the conspirators were for a time confined.

We have created this collection of images primarily to serve as an easy to access educational tool. Contact curator@old-picture.com.
