Here we present an historic image of 7th New York State Militia, Camp Cameron, D.C., 1861. The picture shows a boack boy shining a pair of boots belonging to one of the soldiers. The boy is likely a former slave. It was taken between 1861 and 1865.

The image shows Soldier, holding bayoneted rifle, standing full-length in front of tent, African American male seated beside him, and others in tent.
