Here for your browsing pleasure is an extraordinary photo of James River, Virginia Sailors relaxing on deck of U.S.S. Monitor. It was made in 1862 by Gibson, James F., b. 1828.

The photo documents the Federal Navy, and seaborne expeditions against the Atlantic Coast of the Confederacy -- the Federal Navy, 1861-1865.
