Here for your perusal is a somber photograph of Washington, D.C. Hooded body of Captain Wirz hanging from the scaffold. It was created in 1865.

The photo illustrates Washington, 1862-1865, the execution of Captain Henry Wirz, November 1865. Wirz was the infamous "Andersonville Jailor" and he was executed for his treatment of Union Prisoners during the Civil War
