Pontoon bridge and ruins of the stone bridge across the Potomac (destroyed in 1861)

 

Here for your enjoyment is an absorbing photograph of Berlin (now Brunswick), Maryland Pontoon bridge and ruins of the stone bridge across the Potomac (destroyed between 1861 and 1865). It was made in 1862 by Gardner, Alexander, 1821-1882.

The photo illustrates main eastern theater of the war, Battle of Antietam, September-October 1862.
